Permaculture, Orchard, Forest Garden
Permaculture, quickly becoming Andy's passion, is a system of agricultural and social design principles centered around simulating or directly utilizing the patterns and features observed in natural ecosystems. The term permaculture (as a systematic method) was first coined by Australians David Holmgren, then a graduate student, and his professor, Bill Mollison, in 1978.e
We like to simply call it Permanent Agriculture. It utilizes layers of perennial crops. It's basis is found in the 7 layers of a natural food forest, which is a part of permaculture. The first layer is canopy, next shade tolerant tree layer, then the shrub layer, next the herbaceous layer, then the root layer, after that the ground cover layer, lastly the vine layer.
We began this method in 2015 after reinventing the idea of our orchard garden. Also, after learning about Mark Shepard and starting to follow his teaching and methods. We are just beginning this journey and are beyond excited to consume the results!
